Use the opportunity

Stækkaðu framtíðina is for all primary and secondary schools across the country. It involves volunteers from various professions visiting classrooms to introduce their work, share their backgrounds, and explain how their education has helped them along the way.

The aim of the initiative is to open students’ eyes to the opportunities the future holds, sparking their interest in learning.

Having dreams and a vision for the future helps young people recognise the value in what they are learning, boosting their engagement and resilience in education.

How does it work?

Signing up to our platform is simple. Using innovative technology, teachers, career advisors, and other school staff can connect with volunteers from across the country. Once registered, it’s easy to find volunteers and organise a visit, whether in person or online.

Schools also gain access to support materials, including preparation tips, lesson plans, and worksheets, making the visit both educational and enjoyable.

You can't be what you can't see!

Some young people need a role model they can relate to, whether it’s someone from their local community or who shares their background or gender. Others are eager to discover careers they had no idea existed or that align with their personal interests. Visits from volunteers across different industries open students’ eyes to new possibilities in the job market.

Volunteers bring learning to life with personal stories that inspire students, boosting their resilience, confidence, independence, and expanding their view of the future.

Research shows that career introductions have a positive impact on students. They challenge stereotypes, broaden horizons, and encourage young people to pursue their passions. This increased interest and self-confidence leads to reduced dropout rates and greater commitment to education.
