Tæknitröll og Íseldfjöll (Tech Trolls and Ice Volcanoes)

Stækkaðu framtíðina is developed in collaboration with the British Embassy in Iceland.

British Ambassador Dr. Bryony Mathew is registered as a volunteer for ‘Stækkaðu framtíðina,’ having also volunteered with ‘Inspiring the Future’ for some time, speaking to numerous students in the UK via video conferencing.

Bryony is also a children’s author and holds a PhD in neuroscience. She published the book Tæknitröll og Íseldfjöll (Tech Trolls and Ice Volcanoes) with the aim of opening children’s eyes to the career possibilities of the future, highlighting jobs that will be among the most interesting and important in Iceland over the next 10 to 20 years. As Mathew points out in the book, many of today’s primary school children will work in jobs that do not yet exist, in a world that is changing rapidly.

In Iceland, Bryony visits schools across the country with Sunna Marteinsdóttir and Berglind Jónsdóttir, who also work at the embassy. Together, they have met over 600 children, introducing them to Tæknitröll og Íseldfjöll, a book Bryony wrote specifically for Icelandic children about exciting future careers. The book opens up a whole world of fascinating, diverse, and varied job opportunities for young minds, with a special focus on inclusion and diversity.
